How to choose your sectional sofa

Why sectional?

Picture this: You come home after a hard-days work and look for the first thing you can sit on and relax. Unless you have combined the dining room and the hall, this opportunity will be in the living room. You sit down on your sofa ready to get comfortable, only to be disturbed by these factors: same cracking sound when you sit down, same poking feeling in your back part from the metal, same problem of not having any footrest piece. Happened to all of us in the past, and if you realise this is you, you need a new sofa.

Which one?

Choosing the right sofa can be overwhelming, of course, but I'll try to give you some hint on where to start exactly. First, if you haven't done so, you'll take your vote on sectional sofas. Why? Once you buy it you can constantly re-arrange them because they contain multiple pieces. You can separate them if you don't have enough space and to be honest, the modern look of many Italian sofas are breathtakingly beautiful. Also, they are ideal for everybody: if you have a big family you'll need more then 3 or 4 places to sit, more variety. If you lead a bachelor life or live in a relationship, the next time you invite friends over, which won't be the first probably, you'll need bigger space, a bigger sofa.

Scheme

On the other hand, with choosing the right color scheme I won't be able to fully help. You need to look at your living room's surrounding, the scheme, the style of the room and decide what color your sofa should be. Take into consideration, that while many pictures show white and black sectional sofas looking amazingly cool, they are so, because their surroundings usually match with it. Don't worry though, you don't need to re-paint your living room: for example a beige colored sofa can go beautifully with brown or reddish painting/wallpaper:

What for?

You also want to consider what exactly you do in the living room. Although from playing video games, chatting with friends to watching tv or reading a magazine, most of the options are crying for a big sofa, there are some cases, where it can be a burden rather than a boon. If you have a small living room and your measurement somewhere went wrong, your small living room have just become even tinier (although in this case you can always send it back).

Measurement

And we have arrived at one of the most important issues: measuring. I cannot stress enough that meaning correctly is essential here. If you have a smaller living room than consider a corner sofa with 3-4 pieces. Always add few inches on all sides in order to ensure the sofa fits. Note that if it has reclining seats, meaning you'll need extra space in the background, or if you plan on buying a matching coffee table or footrest, you'll need extra space in front of it.

Test

A good advice I heard once was to visit your local physical stores, try some sofas, sit in them, look at the fabric, the scale, try to imagine what type you want, you should be able to do that by now. Once you're done I advise to look around the internet for better prices, because e-tailers can usually provide lower ones.

After purchase

Keep in mind the cleaning. If it has pillows you can easily remove the cover of them and wash, but many times the whole sofa has slip-covers, this can save you a lot of time when it gets dirty. Also, if you find yourself often eating on these sofas, you should look for a darker color because it will hide some of the minor dirt spots.

Buying

Many of us commit a minor fault: we tend to buy things that are a bit cheaper than original/pricier ones and then later (maybe without even realising) all the tiny problems come up and we can change it annually. That is why I suggest buying one quality sectional sofa for a lifetime and not worrying about replacing it any time soon. Good Luck!
